Glen Carlou Quartz Stone Chardonnay 2023 750ml is the estate’s flagship single-vineyard Chardonnay, crafted from a historic 35-year-old vineyard on the northern foothills of the Simonsberg-Paarl region. Planted in distinctive granite-based soils scattered with quartz stone, the low-yielding vines produce fruit of exceptional concentration, elegance, and minerality. The grapes are hand-harvested, hand-sorted, and whole-bunch pressed, with only the finest free-run juice selected for fermentation. The wine is naturally fermented, with 90% matured for 12 months in new French oak barriques and 10% in a Nomblot concrete egg, before careful barrel selection for the final blend. The 2023 vintage is a refined expression of Glen Carlou’s pioneering Chardonnay heritage, offering remarkable richness, complexity, and excellent cellaring potential.

The nose reveals captivating aromas of citrus, white peach, fragrant spice, and buttered toast, beautifully complemented by hints of lime zest and delicate oak. On the palate, vibrant flavours of lemon, green apple, and ripe stone fruit unfold across a luxuriously textured palate, supported by bright natural acidity and a refined mineral backbone that reflects the vineyard’s quartz-rich soils. The finish is long, elegant, and persistent with lingering notes of citrus, toasted brioche, and saline minerality.
